Digitally Signing InfoPath Forms Has Never Been Easier

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Thanks to the latest version of CoSign with SharePoint, that is. The popular digital signing solution that eliminates the reintroduction of paper into otherwise automated processes has recently been updated with some exciting enhancements. For example, users can now digitally sign InfoPath forms in their native formats with neither CoSign nor InfoPath installed on their machines. Talk about taking a load off those administrators, right? The update also includes improvements for signing PDF files in SharePoint that put extended capabilities in the users’ hands without requiring administrative support. It seems end users and admins alike will find plenty to fall in love with in this latest release. Read more about it here.

Digital Signatures with Document Management: Saving Time & Money

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

The holiday season is upon us once again, and if you’re anything like me, that means you’ve got two things at the top of your mind: time, and money. Whether we’re talking about finding the time (and the money) for all that holiday shopping, or growing the money pile by closing those last-minute year-end deals on time, it seems time and money are of the essence now more than ever.

For FileHold Systems this holiday season, time and money translates to helping people save both. The president of the company, Larry Oliver, even said so himself in a recent press release, where he pointed to the need for organizations to save paper, time, and money as a factor in FileHold’s decision to add a digital signature component to its electronic document management solution. The new addition enables users to save “precious time and money” by signing documents with the click of a mouse rather than needing to print, route, scan, and manually archive them. Digital Signatures Adopted at City Councils Worldwide

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

I recently wrote a post called Digital Signatures can help keep U.S. county courts afloat which explored how city councils can enjoy substantial cost savings by adopting digital signatures, and cited the implementation of a digital signature solution at the City of Vernon in British Columbia as an example. Apparently, counties in other parts of the world are also catching on. A recent article from ‘This is it Staffordshire’ discusses the cost-cutting moves of the Stoke on Trent city council in Staffordshire, England, which include adopting digital signatures.

The article reports that £20,000 will be spent on digital signature technology which will enable the city council to reduce its overall paper use, replace the storage of “masses of paperwork” with digital files, and enable city officials to work from outside the office. The council’s acting director of business services, Steve Sankey, was quoted saying “The benefits are huge; from not passing as much paper around to working more quickly and efficiently.” He’s right on the money about some of the many benefits digital signatures can offer city councils. Growing Digital Signature use in AEC

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

A new digital signature user recently told me about how the engineers in his company were initially reluctant to switch to paperless signatures. “They tend to be more cautious with their signatures,” he said. But their hesitations quickly subsided when they became familiarized with the engineering-specific capabilities their digital signatures offered, such as support for multiple graphical signatures and seals, and sectional signing. The fact is, engineers across North America are realizing that their industry hasn’t been left behind in the widespread shift to electronic processes.

As it so happens, earlier this week a press release announced that Agile Frameworks, LLC, a provider of various services for the AEC marketplace, will soon be offering digital signatures as part of their cloud-based SaaS managed service. With this step, the company is showing that it’s keeping up with changing times, and offering the AEC market the opportunity to further embrace paperless processes and enjoy the many benefits they have to offer. Check out the press release to learn more.

Digital Signatures and ProLaw Enhance the Business of Law

Friday, September 9th, 2011

If you thought the Legal industry was behind on the transition to electronic (seems to be where everyone’s headed nowadays, doesn’t it?), think again. Lawmakers and government agencies are stepping forth into the future of electronic processes, and one of the ways they’re doing so is with the ProLaw software suite from Elite®. It’s a solution that automates the practice of law to simplify and streamline the work of attorneys and other legal professionals.

Now, ProLaw includes a digital signature capability that enhances the integrity, efficiency, and control of electronic case, client, and financial information while also minimizing process delays. In a very innovative and modern way, the digital signature component also enables judges, court staff, and clerks to easily verify the integrity of electronic case filing and submissions as well as the identity and intent of a signer. Leading Engineering Firm Embraces Digital Signatures

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

The people at Terracon know what’s up, which may explain why they were recently ranked in the top 50 of ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms(They even moved up a few spots in the ranking since last year!) So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’ve also recently embraced digital signatures – a very good move on their part, if may say so myself.

Terracon has caught on to the many benefits of digital signatures for engineering, and now their engineers are providing clients with signed documents faster than ever, not to mention saving the organization a pretty penny from eliminated printing and routing costs. With digital signatures, they’re approving and routing documents from any location as easily and quickly as they might check their email. In fact, since implementing digital signatures five months ago, Terracon’s employees have already digitally signed 150,000 client reports. That’s a lot of saved paper and routing costs! Check out the press release about Terracon’s use of digital signatures to find out more.

EHRs benefit more than patients and health care providers

Friday, May 27th, 2011

It’s pretty exciting that more and more healthcare providers in the U.S. are switching from paper to electronic health records (EHRs). Of course, there are more than a handful of reasons to explain this – reasons that extend far beyond government incentives. Potential benefits to patient care from EHRs are many, among them quicker access to patient information from any location, the elimination of redundant testing, and even easier chronic disease management. There’s also the appealing cost savings for health care providers. But what about the benefits for our planet?

A CBS News article entitled Will electronic health records save the planet? discusses the benefits that electronic health records can have for Earth. It reports that EHRs can decrease carbon dioxide emissions, eliminate the use of more than 1,000 tons of paper for medical charts, and also reduce the use of toxic chemicals. Now that’s some pretty exciting stuff! Check out the CBS News article to learn more about how EHRs are benefitting a healthier planet.

Digital Signatures for All Your Business Needs

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

The team at ARX is really excited about the upcoming update to the CoSign digital signature solution (more on that later). I, personally, am really excited about a whole new area in the company’s website called CoSign by Context. It highlights some specific business needs and processes and explains how digital signature capability addresses them. This is a fantastic resource for those who may not yet be aware of the different ways digital signatures can be applied to address their business needs.

Take, for example, a company that hasn’t yet employed an electronic content management or document management solution, but that wants to make efforts to automate business processes. With digital signatures that integrate seamlessly with major business applications (like Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF), these organizations can get a step closer to paperless processes and all the benefits they deliver. Another topic addressed is signing at the point-of-sale/point-of-service. It’s remarkable how big of a difference it can make when you take paper out of the picture in off-site approval processes. For starters, it means your in-the-field employees can forget about finding a printer, carrying stamps and envelopes, and constantly keeping their eye out for a post office. With digital signatures at the point-of-sale/point-of-service, they (and the customer) can sign electronically, and the documents can be delivered in a matter of minutes. Check out the CoSign by Context page to learn more about some of the business processes that can be significantly enhanced with digital signatures. Enjoy!

Going Paperless, Going Green

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

I recently came across a great column called “Katrina’s Corner: 30 Days of Green” on the Montville, CT Patch, an online publication that provides community-specific news and information about events, local businesses and more. In light of Earth Day, which happened on April 22nd, writer Katrina Cribley decided to dedicate the entire month of April to “30 Days of Green” and provide environmentally-friendly tips every day.

In her “Day 28: Go Paperless” post, Cribley gives tips for reducing paper clutter in the home or office, thereby also reducing waste and increasing efficiency. Quoting New American Dream, she shares that “more than 100 million trees’ worth of bulk mail arrive in American mail boxes each year — that’s the equivalent of deforesting the entire Rocky Mountain National Park every four months.” Crazy, huh? Her post goes on to offer a variety of ways to cut paper, such as opting out of junk mail, catalogs and other unwanted paper that arrives in the mail. She also gives tips on going paperless in ways like switching to electronic billing. If you’d like to read more, check out Cribley’s column. Enjoy!
